I know what you mean...this cold spell has got them all over excited!
my aviary is in termoil- i removed boxes after the last fledgling and now she is being fed by second alpha male along with mother, the two loan females wont leave me alone( i think they think me their mate) and squabbles between the three yellow males are tiring my young latino out!
..I realise that febuarychils gets them going, but this subzero temperature? its nuts..
you may try warming theegg in the snow a little and put with the rest
Will they survive? Iwould not be suprised knowing kakariki, but watch and find out is the only way to really know. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
As you can see at 9.10am on the 6th Dec 2010 the temp was -11. It was -13.5 at 7.30 am that morning. Out of all my birds i have lost 1 Zebra finch and 1 Java seeing as ive got around 140 birds i thought i would have lost more. Every single bird have had a bath every other day the kaks were the worst. They even tried bathing in the frozen water.
Well AJ's egg havent hatched or likely to hatch. I have left them in the nest box and AJ is still sitting on them, ( Its keeping her out of trouble). We are still in a cold snap ( unusal for the uk). To keep them warm i have increased the amount of hay in the avairy which not only do they eat but they have started to pile up in various places. To stop their drinking water freezing quickly we have been adding fruit sugar. All of our birds are liking it. At the moment we are having to change the water every 3 to 4 hours, Its -7 at the moment .
