We just lost our male Kakaraki, Ying, this morning, it is so so sad! Although the female looks very healthy, just want a little guidance, on what could be wrong, if anything! Also is it better to wait a bit for a new partner, just don't want her to be lonely!! Thank you!!
sorry about the loss of your male bird.
Unfortunately I can't tell about your male bird what could be the cause.
It can be many things that went wrong... from natural death (heart attack, stroke etc...) to fungus/bacteria, parasites, etc....
My kakariki usually accept readily any new partner but I have seen that in some cases home/pet kakariki get a bit territorial so I don't know neither if you'd be successful or not introducing new birds.

Thank you so much!! Th thing is there isn't alot on their diet, but he loved dragon fruit, you put a slice in the cage, and he would eat it until it was gone, also wonder if he could have been bound up, his stomach was hard!! She so far seem fine and is playing, doesn't even seem like she misses him. Almost like she likes having her own space, kind of strange to me, !!! Well thank you for the direction on a new partner!!!!
