Hi i im looking for some advice about my pet kak i noticed earlier that he has injured his foot, there is a slight discolouration on one of his back toes (slighty blackened) and is limping when he attempts to walk and is moving very slowly when moving from perch to perch, i am really quite worried about this as i love him very much and do not know how he has done this, if indeed he has broken a toe should i take him to the vets or is there nothing that can be done with a broken toe ? or should i wait a couple of days to see if he starts to use it again as normal ? please any help will be greatly appreciated !

In my experiance a broken to or loosing a claw is no big deal....give them a few days, they limp around, and get used to compensation and back to normal...
Now going black THAT is a concern....are you 100% sure there is not a bit of very fine thread wound around the toe, maybe hidden with swelling now.
Gangrene is not good.

If it was one of our birds, gangene , and that was the case, I would snip it off with side cutters and quartize with silver nitate sticks if needed.
Our birds have a high vit K1 in their diet so when they cut /bleed it congells and heals very quick.

Thank you Steptoe for your quick reply, i am almost certain that it is a broken toe there is definatly no cut, i think that it is slightly bruised, i reckon i'll give him a couple of days and keep a close eye on him, he doesnt seem to be in much pain, but if theres no improvement i'll certainly take him to the vets. Thank you once again you are a true diamond :)
