:?: Hi, I have taken some pics of my 'cinnamon' kakarikis and sorry not very good ones at that  BUT what i'm wondering is -

in my opinion when i hear the word 'cinnamon' i relate that to a light coffee colour, like as in a cinnamon cockatiel but the pair of 'cinnamon' kakariki's i bought I would have to describe them as 'olive' in colour with differing coloration in the end of the flight and lower body area Anxious .

I'll attach 1 pic here and then one more and really TRY to get some much clearer ones (IF the birds would just stay still long enough wall ), hopefully it will give you an idea about what i'm asking about - are these birds TRUE cinnamon kakarikis duno

Thanx

Hello Indi,

There are 3 elements of colour in parrots. Psittacin(red and yellow), eumelanin(Black) and Feather structure (Blue).
Kakariki's have them all. Together they form the colour green. Cockatiels only have 2. They mis the blue structure.

Cinnamon is a qwalitative reduction of melanin. The melanin is not oxidated correctly and is brown instead of black .In cockatiels leads it to the coffee colour. In Kakariki it is a brownish green.

I'm working on a description of all the mutations to put them in the forum. I need some good pics (close-up) for each mutation. So anything you can shoot is w3c Laughing
