hi!
could someone please tell me if it is normal for a hen kakariki to keep laying eggs?
my hen started laying eggs a goodfew months ago and altho i think it has slowed down sightly, she's still going!
she seems happy and healthy in herself and once the eggs are layed she seems to have no interest in them. but i just thought it would have stopped by now?
On a previous topic you mentioned your bird Harry has no partner and very devoted to you. I have no experience with this but I believe she sees you as her partner. Maybe this is also the reason why she’s started to laying eggs.
I also believe she is very young, probably younger than 1 year. Young birds miss often the trigger to start breeding and stop laying eggs.
Not so long ago I had a bird with the same problem. I removed her (with her partner) to another cage (without nestbox) and she stopped laying eggs.
So I believe when you change her environment dramatically she will stop too. For example, remove some perches or the entire cage. But I think the best thing to do is to buy her a friend.
hey guys im really pleased shes layed her 7th egg this morning but when i checked the eggs are in a little hole shes made in the nest but the eggs are on the nesting box floor with the nest contents around them in a perfect circle is this ok or should i lift them out and put some straw under them because im worried she might break an egg thankyou all
