one spends all this time trying to get them to breed and when u succeed it dawns on you ........ how do i make em stop _________________ thanks brucie.....
haha.....i was saying to my husband today that sometimes i don't know where to look.
I'm really pleased i tried to leave it as long as possible to allow Vegas to get used to a good diet but she laid in the bottom of the cage last week, so hubby built an emergency nest box and we have a new egg.
She's sitting on it right away too, which i thought was uncommon until they had about 3-4 eggs.
Thanks for the replies, i've not been able to get on the site, my router is playing up and no matter what i say to my provider, they just don't get it!!!!!
Anyway.....on my last update here we had an egg, we now have 5.....we hardly see Vegas now she comes out, eats, drinks, socialises for about 5 mins then straight back into the nest box.
I've been reading up on candling, i just wanted to ask...i'm a bit worried about handling the eggs for candling, i had decided to wait until Vegas comes out then 'go for it' as quickl as possible!!! is this the best way? I'm a bit apprehensive incase she gets worried about her eggs.
to be honest iv'e stopped doing it ... it spoils the surprise like peeking at you pressies or asking the sex of your child
but if u can't wait like me the first time yes wait till she comes out be as gentle and calm as poss the littlest pressure from your fingers and smash egg gone... i block the hole so she cant go bk till i'm done. _________________ thanks brucie.....
you see, i am of quite the same opinion, it's not really as though its something that needs to be done but i am quite curious purely because this is my first time.
I'll get it done next time she comes out and let you kknow how i got on.
go Vegas !!!! it really surprised me what a good mum mine was the first time she sat... i couldnt help keep peeping good luck hope it all goes ok _________________ May........
So sorry everyone, my router has been really playing up, i've just realised you have replied.
Yeah Steptoe, i see exactly where your coming from, and i will eventually candle the eggs one day.
One of the other reasons i haven't is purely as i do not want to disturb the eggs, it is their first time and i have been anxious as Vegas is quite young so i thought i would let nature take it's course what will be will be.
May - thanks for your support....no hatchlings as yet but it should be imminent
i now have two chicks, another hatched on tuesday.
So far everything is going good, there are still 2 eggs, one is infertile and the other looks to be fertile
(i eventually candled them, don't know what i was anxious about)
I check on them whenever i can, i can't quite believe how quick they are in moving around the nest box...amazing. Mum and Dad are allowing me to check without any problems.
To be honest i can't contain my excitement, this has so far proven to be very rewarding
WOW! Well done! I'm a new owner and a bit unsure what is what. Do you have a pair livivg together or just together for mating? My bird has been in a nest building frenzy for 2 weeks but sadly has no mate but seemed to be inviting me! Yesterday she laid an egg! We thought till then she was male! What should I expect now? Any advice would be ! :-&
I've not been able to get on the site for ages but managed this week.
Wee update on my brood...
I ended up with three fertile eggs and now have three almost 11 week old chicks that are thriving. I have two boys and one girl...still struggling with pics tho
Unfortunately i lost Ziggy (the dad) the other week, which is really sad he was my first and most favourite.
