I have heard many reasons for not worming. Many of these come out of peoples mouths and, i just stare in disbelief.
Now your belief comes from a well thought out set of priceples and although i do not agree i, respect them.
What i will say is more birds die from NOT being wormed than do from being wormed.
The only reason for worming is because they have worms...
If they dont then there is no need to worm
If they do have worms in capitivity it is because of inbalanced diet and/or consistantly damp porous floors.
Continual worming creates resistant gentic lines of worms...which happens very easy and quick.....once resistant worming is a waste of time
The only reason animals/ birds die or get sick from worms is lack of care...which includes good balanced diet, conditions and gross negilgence.
Constant worming when there is no need, caused long term damage inside the bird shortens their life quite dramitically....or put another way...slow poisoning resulting in death. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Besides, the cyclus of parasites is somewhere between 2 and 6 weeks.
And an egg can live for months outside a host.
So ,if you really believe in preventive worming, you should do it at least every six weeks..THE way to kill your birds on an overdose of chemicals.
Targeting intermediate hosts (suchs as worms, snails insects)decreases risk of infection. Most intermediate hosts and parasite eggs do not tolerate sunlight and dry conditions.
So keeping the cage and especially the areas around feeders and waterers clean and dry, and providing your flock with sunlight will reduce numbers of parasite eggs dramatically.
Feeding your birds a good, healthy diet makes them strong.
A strong healthy bird and it's strong healthy offspring is more likely to survive infection.
Preventive worming is pure guesswork, and will eventually cost more money and time than preventing contamination.
Besides, it's the responsability of a bird owner to do all he can to prevent them from becoming ill in the first place, instead of only focussing on disease combat.
They deserve it!
If that is not the attitude of an animal lover to begin with than he/ she does not deserve taking care of them.
