A yellow crown kakariki species...
With pied mutation.
Female
At least 12 to 18 months old

BUT going from the yellow of the crown...which appears more a mix of fine red and yellow feathers giving a darker/orange tinge....a hybrid.
Which then brings into question is the pied gene a yellow crown species gene or a red crown species ???????

What is unusual is the lack of patch behind the eye....generally a hybrid....and this is debateable.... has a yellow or faint yellow patch.

Could you have a very close look at the yellow crown please....
?Is the yellow pure yellow or has some fine red mixed in?

Thankyou.
Ihave had a good look at her and the crown is dark yellow like a fresh egg yolk.
I can,t see any obvious red feathers.
She has no yellow patch behind the eyes.
I woild like to find her a mate as she spends a lot of time in a nestbox.
What do you suggest i pair her with?
Also what can i keep with her?
She is in a large flight with zebra finches at present.
Thanks all for any awnsers.

Without physically looking at the bird, and from your further description

I would be doing my utmost to locate another pure breed yellow crown...do your best to trace the source of that one would be your best luck
Pure breed yellows are very rare.
If yours is not pure breed I believe it is not far off an acceptable level.

Yellows are rare enough let alone a pure breed one in captivity, be it Europe or NZ.

Thanks for the info,
Unfortunatley the owner of this bird can,t remember where her husband bought it from.
He recentley passed away and she gave the bird to me.
She said that it had a mate for a couple of years but never bred.
She also said that they were reasonably priced.
So that may suggest that she is not pure yellow.
What else should i consider if i can,t find yellow.
Also are they ok kept with finches?

The chances are being older, a history of having a mate, not breeding, even if u did find a yellow crown, she would not breed anyway.
yes fine to keep with finches

Thanks for the reply,
If she is to old to breed then why is she in a nestbox for so much time?

Just because a bird is old, doesnt mean it doesnt like being /living in a nesting box, espec if a female
