I have 4 pairs of Kak's side by side. I wanted to get a Lutino cock i had purchased to breed so, i placed him inbetween 2 breeding pairs. My luck has been good as i have 4young in their nest box. Now the problem is 2 of the 4 pairs are breeding and, the hens are sitting the boxes but, no eggs!!!. I assume that putting them side by side stimulated my Lutino but, pehaps bloked the oter 2 surrounding pairs? wall

Are the nesting boxes in each flight in line of sight of each other...

It sounds like an issue I have come across several times, espec when experiman=ting with flock breeding in small flights and was explained by a leading avarian Vet, and also a parrot breeder.
For some reason...and its not understood, a female goes to nest but rather than lay eggs it 'hides' as if sitting on eggs.
I thought it maybe intimidation...for a while....maybe???

I have also found when removing these females from those flights, moving to other remote flights with a male, they still go to nest and 'hide'
Only had 1 ever lay eggs and raise chicks.
But if the are moved to a remote flight, a couple males no nesting boxes, the hook up with 1 male, remove the other and hang nesting boxes a couple days later.....that worked every time except once...but I stongly suspect that female may have been very intimidated and put off m8ing altogether previously.

Nesting boxes, between flights, and communty breeding, unless at great distance must be out of line of sight to the other pair breeding.

hit the fan One nesting box was in line of sight. It had no eggs and, i know the hen is fertile. as i am breeding her son and daughter. The second pair offspring of that hen have a nesting box out of line of sight.
Now i made a mistake! the brother/sister pair do have eggs 4 or 5. When i went to relocate them i found she had put then under the shaving's so, they were not able to be seen. I replaced the box and let them be. Hopefully i have not done any harm to her efforts.
Now the pair with the hen who has reared young has, been relocated to a 3.8 meter aviary with 2 pair of budgies.
I am trying to colony breed budgies and have only 2 pair in this aviary to experiment. Will the Kak,s be offput by this? Since this hen has breed before do you think this set back will be as severe as the other cases you mentioned? duno

It helps to throw the hen into the nesting box....I put a twigg over the enterance enough so she doesnt jump straight out again....take 10 or 20 mins for her to get it out of the way.

No

Budgies colony breed fine, but with kakariki the budgies tend to get up to mischeif, distractin the kakariki from doing there thing....If left long enough things tend to settle down.
