hi,
I inherited two green kakarikis from my dad, they are green with red crowns like the one pictured winking on the web-page. I believe I have 2 males, they are chatty, curious and a good size but show no interest in mating. How do I tell male from female?

Hi jasperjade w3c

Most kakariki can be sexed by the width of their beaks.
If you can show us a close-up pic of their heads (upfront and en profile) we can probably help you out.

jasper,

if you had birds of different sex you should be able to tell when they are side by side, the male has a bigger head, wider beak and slightly bigger size.

About mating... I have not seen them mate, but I have seen 2 male kakarikis feed each other and make the courtship ritual signlol
