The old google web site translator doesnt work and cant figure out why.
The Bing, microsoft web site translator works well......well since Im not bi ligual, I cant comment on th actual translation.

The ugly translation bar is at the top...and I cant figuer out how to change colours to match our web site, not so big and bulky...

I would like to know what others think before going any further
Cheers
Steps.

Tried translation into German as well... just as Jibberish as Dutch.

Steps, I speak quite a few languages and have yet to find a translator that really picks up on syntax and semantics. Words are more often than not translated literally and they lack a good sense for sentence structure.

I use a Dutch translator now and then. This one, to me, is the best so far. It offers translations into 9 languages. But one still has to have more than just a bit of a " feeling" for languages to correctly translate complete sentences.

The Dutch translator does offer webmasters a link to their site. but I am afraid the manual is in Dutch.

So for now, I'd say; translating words.. yes. Sentences and pages.. no.

But that's just my opinion off course. Maybe Pabloc can test Spanish?

Thats the feed back I need.
What if someone doesnt have any written English, is it good enough to allow the person to accept the inaccuracy, and still get the gist of what is written is about?
When Im on Other language sites, and a nil 2nd language, then translate to English, yes it is very creative, espec in grammer and such, but its not difficult to understand what is written.

The problem is translators are quite good in translating from any language to English. But the other way around just sucks big time.

I tested Google by translating Dutch into English and then back again. So same lines from English to Dutch. The difference in both translations is amazing. It just does not work (yet)

So to me, A Dutchie.. translating this site into Dutch does not work.
But.. Dutch is a difficult and not a very common language. German looks a lot like Dutch and maybe that's why Google had trouble translating that as well.

Maybe Pabloc has more luck in Spanish. If I am correct, Spanish is the 2nd world language, next to Chinese. And Spanish syntax looks more like the English than the Dutch does.

Absolute, uttermost, gigantic rubbish hit the fan

<v> lmao

sorry, didn't mean to be harsh, but it feels good to be a rude bastard once in while hehehe

to be honest I didn't try one of those posts in which Steps gets creative with his spelling
signlol

(yes... I have one of those days...)

ok, let's get serious...
as Gee says, translators don't really work well to translate certain sentences, as they rather translate word by word, so the translation engines are still far from being good enough, especially in specific topics, in which a "slang" is used.
I have been using google translate for 4-5 years to read French and Dutch websites and although it improves slowly they are still far away from being useful, and I translate into English.
I think the translation engines always translate from original language into English, before the 3rd/final language, so it's a big mess.
Nevertheless I think google works slightly better than this microsoft translator.

Just my 2 cents

Steps, I usually use google translator from this url
http://translate.google.com/
I never used the built in translator of kakariki.net because I understand English reasonably well, and if I doubt about 1 word I'd rather visit the dictionary as I can find different meanings etc...

Also... now I use google chrome browser, and it has a built-in feature that pop ups a top-bar whenever you visit pages in foreign languages.
I use it for French and Dutch sites, it's an aid.
