Blackberry was introduced in the 1800s and spread like wildfire (like gorse and a few other plants) to become a major noxious weed.
And a favourate place for hare, which along with rabbiys possums, hedgehogs stoats ferrts rats mice goats and wallablies are also a major threat to the NZ ecocolgy
We do have the non thorn variety that one day yrs ago appeared in my veggie garden and ctops very well. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

At the start of this thread I talked about my ill chick which has since died. The sister of the chick looks like it will not be able to fly it has been out of the nest box or some time and it spends all of its time on the floor. It seems that it holds one of its wings lop sided.
Because of this I think the father of the chicks could be breeding deformed birds.
What should I do with him has I know the hen has produced perfectly good chicks in the past with another male.
I don't know what is your current set up, but you can use the male as a "tutor" for future weaning chicks, or sell him to someone looking for a pet bird, not interested in breeding.
But... it can also be a one-off occurrence. It has happened to me with cockatiels, that once have a failed nest or weaker chicks, and all the other offspring is perfectly ok. Also a cockatiel pair has stopped feeding 2 babies right after coming out of the nest, and they ended up being weaker. Other times they have reared chicks perfectly.
Maybe you can give the male a second chance.
That's your call really, you have to judge or guess where the problem can be. Also bacteria/fungi can affect the chicks.
Sorry not to be of more help.

This sort of thing is a good sign of either genic defect as you suspect but more commonally poor diet for the months leading upto egg laying and/or during raising of the chicks after hatching
I will lay odd that female will die within ther next 1 to 3 months...sry
Get another batch out of them...get inwith the protein, calcuim and phosporus (meat, choppe cooked chicken bones, and the cartilage on those bones cali and broccolli stems....plus all the other daily normal stuff.
Cheers
