Hi, my birds love corn on the cob, I just pur it in the bottom of the cage and they run around on it for a while before eating it and seem to really enjoy it they also love pomegranite seeds and curly kale they eat every day if that helps
just a up date on the new eggs one hatched on tuesday morning but got on weds and the little cheap cheap had died not sure how or why the little fella was perfectly formed and even had little white feathers maybe it got squashed just hoping the other 5 eggs hatch and they are ok
just thought this might help. my 2 young breeding pairs had killed there first born and we had started removing them right after they hatched after that . we tried surrogate birds with no luck and handfed with some success.but i have come to the conclusion tonight that placing newborns in a brooder an feeding every 2 hours for 3to 4 days then reintroducing them back into the nesting box does work. i do believe that young hens are too rough when cleaning up there newborns for i have found blood on feet and wings when i took them out .
Over all the yrs raising over 1000 chicks , the oly issue we have had is low fetility wit 1st time pairs/hens.
The only big difference I can see is many of others birds are hand reared at some time in their hertitage where as all of ours are avary raised and wened by the parents.
And we check nesting boxes , which involves light tapping on the sides, slowly allow light in and closed up again all done in about 10 secs at the most.
The only time we have had a hen attack chicks was a 2nd batch when we where experimenting with 1 pair and 1 nesting box....these chicks already had adult feathers forming. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
