Nice forum here. I am a relatively new kakariki owner. I received a red-fronted kakariki in September, and he (Harley) turned 6 months yesterday.

What I am noticing with him as of late is very aggressive behaviour. He used to respond to the step-up command very nicely, and follow me around on my shoulder. Now he only seems to want to do when he feels like, and if I bring my hand or finger to him, the pupils in his eyes narrow, and he gets ready to lunge at me. I have read this is how they display aggression.

I also have a problem with him attacking me when I clean his cage.

I also often let him out to run around my apartment (his wings are clipped). Getting him to go into his cage used to be super easy, and now, he won't let me catch him at all.

My thought is I gave him too much freedom when I first got him and now he thinks he owns my place. I need to train him to know that I am the boss of the house, and that he needs to be the submissive one.

Any tips fellow kakariki owners?
