Hiya, I've just bought 2 kakarikis yesterday, boy and girl, they are lovely and full of life (though they seem to eat EVERYTHING!).
We have bought them a very big parrot cage, so they won't go crazy whilst we are at work, im just slightly concerned that the parrot perches are too big for them. They have some smaller perches but i don't want them to get used to big perches if it will harm them. Would really appreciate any advice?

Also, we have a Bourkes Parakeet in another cage, we have had her for years. She used to be an aviary, but when her owner died my partner then looked after her. She used to be in a cage with another B parakeet, but died some years ago. She is very timid and doesnt like human contact. I am just wondering how to approach the 'meet and greet' between her and our new kakarikis - would appreciate advice.

Thanks, Zoe :-)

Larger diameter perches are far better than the small skiny ones...best of all are real old dry brances between 3/4" and 2" in diameter, even for the burke.

Chances are if they are all in a new cage...new to them they will all get on well together. Once they have their pecking order sorted and terrorories (who has the top bunk, sort of) it can be very difficult if not impossible without a lot of trial and error.

We have kept burkes and turq with our kakariki for yrs.
