Japanese quail are stupid, and mess up the avairy floors into a stinking mess....Thhu their eggs are great novely in salids and a tray of roated quail as starter for xmas dinner is great... they are a game bird.
Yep been there done that.. big mistake.
The Chinese or Button quail are great little vaccuum cleaners in the bottom of the avairy.
Dont mess up the avairies and stay out of the way.
A couple males or pair in each avairy, a box 10"x 10"x 5 H on its side in a cnr, dry long grass trown in the avairy, they find it make a nest lay.
Now the tricky part, source your birds from a breeder who lets the parent raise, otherwise it is unlikely the parants will sit on the eggs or look after the chicks once hatched.

We are having a go at califonian quail at the moment, beutfull birds, very different in nature to any other quail , hen .....intially very timid birds, but settle down , very quiet and clean.
