hi im interested in breeding yellow crowned karkarikis, I used to breed them years ago but haven't for over 20 years now. I am obtaining anther permit but need too put a supplier's name and permit number on my form, would you be interested in doing that for me and supplying me with a pair once my permit arrives.
I really wonder about 'experts' who describe a bird. kakariki by weight or length...
Thats like saying all Europeans, or any race for that matter are a given weight and height.
We have breed well over 1000 kakariki over the years.. and they range from small to large birds be they female or male... some females a bit larger than a mid sized male.
We have tried selective breeding of larger birds, and noticeably this has very little effect on the off spring, espec if it is from a small female.
Yes we have been noted for the size anf condition of our birds, but most of that is due to enviroment and constant varied diet.....which is no different than humans or cats or cows... a good diet espec when very young (and I believe well before mating with birds) results in healthy big birds...and even then there is a variation... are all your children the same weight and height? _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
