Hi there
i bought a new bird about a month and half a go after my old bird died at first she was lovely would come on our hands out of the cage & let her stroke her she was really friendly but over the last couple of days she as become more aggressive she wont even let me put my hand in the cage to change her food or water and last night when i opened the cage she flew straight for my face is there anything i can do to get her out of this i have had a few kakariki's now and this as never happened before (she also is sharing the cage with another female but they seem to be getting on fine)

Thank you for any advice given

hi again

i really don't know what to do about this bird now she is just getting worse she wont even let us open the cage now she just like a little attack dog. My girlfriend tried to clean the cage yesterday but when she let them out it just kept flying for her and attacking her. I really want to get this problem sorted out but i just don't know how to start been reading on the internet that getting the wings clipped would help but i just don't want to go down that road if i don't need to. I don't want to get rid of her but this might be my only option if we don't get this sorted soon its not fair on the bird to be trapped in the cage all the time and cant even change the water or food with out our fingers getting bitten.
so if any one as had the same problem any advice would be much appreciated. [/b]

It is quite convenient to have a bird very defensive of their cage/ territory / bedroom... means they will go back there to poo, easy to return to the cage etc.
Down side is being able to clean the cage etc....

What is the bird like out and away from the cage?
Does it get a lot of time out of the cage?
Kakariki due to their high activity levels need good space/ time to fly around, they are a aviary bird rather than a cage bird

And wing clipping for such behavour in a kakariki will make it worse due to the unique nature/ character of kakariki.

Thu on the other hand, and this is very rare in kakariki, every so often one will get a rogue bird... basically same as we get occasionally in most species including humans.
over a 1000 birds we have only ever seen 1.

Does it get a lot of time out of the cage? it used to when we firt got it out all the time would come to use and fly and sit on our heads it was a very nice bird signlol but now not so much cus like i say it just attacks if we could find a way of calming it down then we would go back to letting it out all the time again

thank you for your response [/b]
