Well, Tiki hasn't been getting any better, despite all his different medications, supplements, etc. So, I'm wondering if I can just go into my yard, collect a small amount of each plant, then offer it up to him to see if an unbelievably varied diet helps. Like, they eat toxic plants all the time in the wild, but they're smart enough to know how much of each they can eat and what they can't eat. So, if I offer him a large variety of "wild" foods, will he only eat what's safe, or do I have to worry about him dying from arsenic poisoning or something? From what I've been reading, kākāriki only eat what's safe for them, even captive bred kākāriki. As a side note, I live in Canada, so I doubt his ancestors would encounter these plants in the wild (although I'd imagine they'd be able to "taste" the chemical composition?).
The left over potato (not green)peelings , carrot peelings, broccoli stems, bean ends. silver beet and beetroot stems leaves etc all the stuff you throw away preparing your meals, and left overs..
Add to that a bit fresh mint, thyme, sage, basil .. they like a lot mint to chew up and use the oils top prune with...
