On the topic of breeding and our breeding season starting here. One of the most difficult things for a lot of people with a new pair is when they lay eggs and the female does not sit on the eggs.

It is perfectly normal for a bird to lay eggs two to three days apart and to start incubating anything from 3 to 7 days after she has laid the first egg. What this leads to is that the first few eggs hatch at almost the same time but that the last eggs laid hatch later at intervals leading to much smaller / younger chicks in the nest (large clutches) tht have to be watched carefully to make sure they get fed enough and are not trampled by their siblings.

Thanks Princess,

I'd had the female for about 6 months before i decided to get her a friend.
i reckon it must have been only about 2 months together before they bred.
I just got them a nesting box to see what happened and hey bingo.

eddie and lulu are today getting used to their nest box. lulu has pestered him so much the poor thing is shattered.i have been reading the posts the baby kikes look very cute more fluffy than my baby budgies when they were born. what colours are the babys now?
eddie is green-red capped and lulu a yellow-red capped, but i have seen the yellow/green mix kikes at a local breeder . size=18][/size] gypsie
