Kakariki sex (and love)

Hi All, The two new kaks I got seem to be a pair. For some time now I've seen the male feeding the female, and just yesterday they mated!! <v>

So far so good, now I have to make sure they have a nest box they like, so far they've been investigating some, even the small finch boxes, but none seem to their fancy yet. It might be the location of then, so will try new boxes at differnt places in the room.

There is a thread on nesting boxes and u can use the "quick seach" box for a word search for the info u need.
Keep in mind u need something that will eventually have to hold between 5 and 10 adult Kakariki.

Kakariki are usually not to fussy about where they nest if they are really keen so keep an eye on the for a while before you start making major changes.

Sounds like you have lots of boxes and a mixed aviary. They need a box at least as big or preferably a little bigger than a cockatiel box. Kakariki are naturally curious so they will spend lots of time investigating all the possibilities before deciding on a box. It doesn't sound like you have much of a problem. If she hasn't settled on a box in two weeks time then you can start worrying (but only a little).

I have an old xmas tree in the aviary, the finches love to play in it, and the Kak's too. I've watched the female nosing around in different places, so I made a box and put it on the wall and moved the tree up against it. She went right inside and checked it out. Fingers crossed

Sounds good and normal. There should be some action in acouple of weeks. She will probably dissapear for a couple of days or even a week into the box before she lays any eggs.
