Just wondering if fruit juices are okay for my kakariki. I was making juice last night, bird on shoulder of course, and my winged buddy decided to lean forward, almost falling off my shoulder . I was making up some ORANGE juice. I know that my little buddy isn't supposed to have sugars so, I checked the label ... Old South, low acid, NO pulp ... only mentioned orange juice from concentrate and water. Although the label also said 23g of sugar, it MUST be natural. I want my bird to be open to new things so, I put a 'swig' in a shot glass for him. HE LOVES IT !!! I only let him have a taste. This morning when I got MY orange juice out, of course, here comes birdy ... long story short ...
I filled a very shallow ashtray, NEVER BEEN USED, and placed it in his cage, he's lovin' it !!!
Everything in moderation as a general rule...
Then think of fruit juices like this...
If u give a bird an orange, how much will he eat, and how much of that is juice?
Give him a juice and like us he can drink far More than is good for him.
We give our birds grapefruit/oranges when in seaeson...this is about the time laying and the 1st chicks hatch, and about the time kakariki start having a higher protein in their diet...protein also needs vitamin C to be processed in the body...
Just as a fruit juice or a nice wine with a good steak...For us that is _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
