Just a question for the experts. My Chicks were born May 13th onward, and now i was wondering if i posted some pictures, would they be too young to be able to tell Males from Females?

I do know what to look for, but at the moment im not worring about it, as they are so young. I keep looking at head shapes and beaks, and maybe i have 3 males and one female, im just not sure.

When can you breeders start to tell one from the other?

I would lay odds that u are right...its just a little lack of experiance that makes u unsure.

Chicks are quite easy to sex in the nest as they tend to sit still Laughing Males are much larger than females with broader / bigger beaks.

A little practise is all you need. Send the pics

Im loving every minute with them all Karen. I doubt very much if i will do this again, but im glad i have. Its quite something watching them develop and grow.

my thoughts are no 2 is a girl too, which means sadly poor Orange will be dissapointed, its the one she has her eye on.But middle grey i rekon is a boy..

None of the others are spoken for Orange, and im hoping that someone else here will be able to let me know for sure.

I made a promise you get pick of the boys, and that means Annie as well.
All that matters to me is a good home.

I think middle grey could be a boy and hes got lovely markings. Its early to say what personalities are like.

BOY - GIRL - BOY - GIRL.

Based on head and beak shape, which is always difficult from photos I am guessing the sexes as listed above. The chick in the first pic appears to have a larger, flatter head than that of the chicks in pics 2 and 4. The chick in pic 3 is defianately a cock bird.

These predictions have been confirmed by my better half who has an uncanny knack of sexing young Kakariki. Hope that helps.

Ok, so middle green fluff is a girl too...
I guess then it'll be baby fluff... I wouldn't take Lennie/ Annie/ Ghandi from you Scully, I know how attached you are to him! : ) Is that ok?

Well its been a wek since i posted those pics. Its really obvious to me who is who now.

i have two of each, and its easy to see. One of those chicks, the lutino, has been seeing the vet, and he asked me! how could i tell this chick has turned from what i thought was a girl to a boy.
Made me feel quite knowledgeable (sigh) Laughing

thanks all
