I have 2 female Kakarikis both about 9 months old, for the last 6 weeks or so one of them has been laying eggs. I have read other posts on the subject the consensus being to let her get on with it in the end she will give it up as a bad job when they don't hatch. My question is, should I put a nest box in for her as at the moment she is laying on the floor of the cage and I am throwing the eggs out when they are about 4 days old when I clean up old fruit and veg.
Yes, it would be a good idea...if u wish to breed later she will be used to going to a nesting box.
On the down side, u may only see her at feeding time for a few weeks _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
the nest-box has been in a few weeks now, both birds use it(not at the same time), but not for laying eggs! i think they go in there for a bit of piece and quite. up to 4 days ago the one that was laying eggs had stopped since the box was put in. now she has started laying on the floor of the cage again, any suggestions anyone.
if you are handy nest boxs are easy and alot cheaper to make your self. maybe u should make some and place a few in their or at least another one. My hen when choising a nest spends days going in and out finding the one she likes the most.
