Hi,
Like you know about 3 months I have 2 kakariki girls (Maya and Jolie) and Maya about 3 weeks she started to lay eggs. 2 weeks ago i bought a boy kakariki for them!...like I saw one of the girls (Jolie) she understood directly very good with him...she also got feeted from him(and now she layed also an egg)...but Maya who started to lay egg so she refused him and keep the distance .Now one week ago when we took of the nestbox from Maya ,she started to loose very much hair from the chest and belly........I don't know if this is normal...but from yesterday we putted the nestbox back with all the eggswhat she made it.....and she directly was going in and in this morning she made one more egg(now she have 5).
Please if somebody can help me and tell me why she loose so much hair...is it because she putted the eggs?...or because we putted first time the nestbox with the other eggs of.....or is it because of the new man(he understand very good with the another girl...and also he try to be good with Maya but she don't accept him). What to do.....In 3 days we will have an Aviary for them 3 ....and I just want to know if we can put all them 3....in the Aviary ..or just to give the man back (
Hi Tory,
Do you mean that she loses feathers? As long as she doesn't become bald it is not a problem.
One male, two females and a nestbox in a small cage is anyhow a problem. Once there is a bond between the male and one of the females they will become verry teritorial. Then their is a chance that they wound the second female.
I have understood now that your birds are still verry young. In that case I would wait to give them a nestbox until they are one year old. You may remove the eggs.
