Recently (3 months ago) a friend gave me a little lutino kiki, it fits great at home with my cockatiel pair and my coelestis pair, now, i would like to get a partner for it, but... here comes the question...

I know there are good breeders here and they can tell the sex just looking at their beaks, so here are my little kiki portaits.

Thanks for all for your help.
Btw, should i search for a green one (as partner?) or another lutino, is there any recommendations? (i know i cannot mix it with the other subspecies of the Cyanoramphus nocaezelandiae, but... are there any links or something so i can check differences?)

Hi,

Sorry I can't help with the sex ID of your bird, I find it pretty hard to distinguish them, specially on pics and even worst having only one bird on the pics and no other to compare.
Nevertheless my intuition would tell it could be a female, but better wait for the experts opinions.

As for your other question I believe it would be better to get another lutino.

Regards,

Dolf

I have noticed something about (maybe her) , it is very , extremely quiet, i mean , i have had roseicollis , and now cockatiels and parrotlets, and they are noisy like trucks, but the kiki is quiet...

are they like cockatiels? i mean, do males sing? are males more noisy?

Hi,

Both males and females do sing, and both do about the same kind of natural sounds. As Steptoe says, it seems that males do it more often.
I do love their sounds, much nicer than any other psittacine birds I know (except the red rumped, who make a beautiful sound); for me, as strange as this seems, they look like dolphins, as if they were laughing. Much more pleasant and harmonious than Cockatiels, Rosellas, Ring necks or Senegal parrots (the other birds species I have).

As for making sounds they learn with humans, or even talking, I have no idea if both sexes can do it or only males as for the cockatiels.

As for being quiet, yes, I do agree, they don't sing all the time like budgies, or even as often as agapornis. But they are 100 times more speedy than most other psittacine birds I know, always jumping, playing acrobacies in the cage...
From all my birds kakarikis are those that wake up the earliest in the morning and also those that go to sleep the earliest in the evening too.

Dolf

Hi again,

What happened to the EDIT button on this topic?
After posting my last post above I wanted to correct something, but amazingly no EDIT button available here, even though it's available on other posts from other topics!

Was there just an mt space where the button was meant o be?
havnt changed any settings
did u try hitting refesh page?

Malesa of most species tend to be most vocal...thet are the ones chatting up the females, stand gaurd for warning, call when foods is out, stuff like that.

Steptoe, not sure what you mean by "mt" Think
Anyway, in other topics, other posts, the EDIT button is to the right of the QUOTE button. Here on this topic alone, even now, there's no button at all where the EDIT button should be, and no empty space either, only the QUOTE button. Weird! d'oh!

And yes, I did refresh the page, even moved around to check in different pages and topics of the Forum, even closed the browser window and came back again, but nothing changed! Well, Internet mysteries, as I call them Rolling Eyes

Dolf
