Being currently Kakariki-less (he's with my ex-); I am considering getting a King Parrot. Does anyone have general advice on what they are like as pets? Should I choose a male over a female? How much space do they require?

We have one as a house parrot...a male about 12months old
"House parrot" has a cage that is open 24/7..even when away for weekends etc...And share the house with the cat...they just ignore each other
Not wing clipped.
Unlike other larger parrots, they dont wreck your furniture and not too noisy
Crimson wings are very similar in nature, so toss a coin as to a king or a crimson.
He has water in the cage..a bath
Food is a stand about 1 to 2 meters from the cage, so he hast to fly to it to eat.
Hes very Territorial about the cage...anything threating hes back on top or inside...If we feed a treat he hast come out ..we dont enter his domain unless to clean the cage.
Also very noticeable is that he will return to the cage or stand to poo.
Bob..our king is aviary breed, so not cuddly, but will sit on the hand/arm/shoulder and stuff, but will not let one scratch him yet..thu he is still young and we dont push it.
Kings and crimsons get on very well with most other parrot species

Yes for a pet /house parrot a king or crimson would be 1st choice.
