We are having difficulty with drinkers for our Kaks. We had some plastic ones that you fill and invert giving a steady supply of water but the male chewed the plastic rendering them useless. We tried small bowls and feeders but they throw food in them, try to bathe in them and then the males turns them upside down. Now we have a hamster type water bottle with a metal end (the one with the ball bearing at the end) but they don't seem to want to work it out.

Any ideas?

Fangio.

Are they in a cage or avaiary?
I will assume cage..
Create a shelf high on the cage and water container that holds about 50mm deep with sides 50mm" approx 200x 100mm sq

And a second low, the type that clip on the side

The lower one they will drop food in and hi one drink, bath in

I tried the type u mention some yrs back...and discarded them.

Dont put food /water containers under perches.

Cheers
Steps.

I have two water dishes in my cage, too. One is high, the other low but they are completely different dishes. One is the clear one that came with the cage and sits inside the sliding door, the other is a dark green dish that has two hooks. I hook that inside the lower sliding door.

Birdie uses the top one for drinking only and only very rarely does he leave his food in it, although I did see him rinsing and dipping his piece of apple today but didn't leave anything in there.

His bottom one he uses it for bathing almost everyday and some days, I find a piece of carrot sitting in it, too or whatever other fruit or vegetable, flower or piece of meat he's had.

They are funny birds.

I gave mine an ice cube today in his water dish. I love watching him. He knows something is in there and sometimes, he tries to pick it up. I don't think he's worked out what it is but it's fun watching him try.
