Hello eveyone, im so glad that I found you!
Im from South Africa and kakarikis are not very common here. I managed to get one as a baby and I have hand reared it - what an incredible bird!!!! He is about 6 weeks now but looks about a year old. He has grown so fast and he is just so beautiful. I only have one problem though...............he ets his own pooh. I stop him everytime but he loves it, just the thought freaks me out though. He literally does a pooh and turns straight round and bites into it. In the morning when i wake up, his mouth and face is full of it. None of my birds have ever done this.
Is it just a nasty little habbit that he will grow out of or is it a vitamin that he is lacking?
Has anyone ever had this before?
I really appreciate any advice anyone can give me.
Thank you so much!! d'oh!

"Bit of chopped up lean cooked steak left overs, few bones from cooked chicken with bits of meat on and catiladge.
As mentioned in previous posts..we dont feed (havnt for many yrs now) commerial additives, but use cuttlefish, pumce sand, bones for calcuim..
Thu we occassionaly give them a few cat biskets also.

Bascally a well raised kakariki with eat 2 to 3 times more meat, fruit veggies than seed."
