I have 10 mixed young kaks (3 months) old in a flight with 3 older males as they had no partners when they were mixed with the young.one of the young females is trying to be mated and doing her up most to get one one of the males to take advantage of her..... should i ignore her flirting with them or separate the males from females till they get to a year? she is desperate ! we have other flights so with a bit of a change round we wondered if we should do a male fight and a female flight and then mix them together when they reach a year
We using 'holding' flights with no nesting boxes where young birds are removed from nesting flight to.
Yes there is some "flirting" or pairing off but dont get any mating..(no nesting boxes)
The process goes
nesting box introduced
male checks out and desides ok
male devalopes a territory around it
Then m8ing takes place
If concerned I would remove the older males
the advantage of a holding flight with several sets of siblings, a natural selection of pairing takes place which we have found generally produces larger/stronger birds.
The next breeding season some of these pairs are moved to breeding flights _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
