hi looking for help i have a 4 month old kak he was ok in the beggining i amlearning him to talk when i let him out hes started biting people can anyone give any advise please
Describe biting...
Does he draw blood
or a sharp nip
or a more a heavy nibble
The latter 2 are more "I wonfer if this is eadable?"
Having your bird actually come down is a huge step forward in taming
The next steps areto contoll thus without him loosing trust
Kakariki and other parrots tend to verberly growl each other..make like a bird and do the same in a low tone voice.
There are older threads on taming...run a forum search for taming and biting _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
he stretches his beak out lunges his head forward and trys to attack you he hurts but he dont draw blood but when anyone is doing anything he comes down to see what u are doing and what he can get up to is this anything to worry about
Well as he is gong to bite growl him...he will look up, in suprise distraction.
then may have another go...look up again
but observe , the next may be a tentive nibble,
just to prove his piont..no growl
If perssitant then tap him bavk with your finger and growl
he the associates the growl and finger together.
Dont assume the he thinks your whole body is all one thing
he has to learn this too.
The growl and low tone NO can then be used for other things even from a distance....like going to dismantle a pot plant, or tearing holes in net curtains and stuff
Act like a bird and be the dominate bird in the flock
Same as with children...who runs the household, the children or parents? _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
hi steptoe just letting u know how i got on we grabbed hold of him and he tried to bite us so we kept flicking his beak and telling him no and after a few days he stopped biting now its more of the sharp nip

I know this is an old thread but I thought i'd just give my experience of this method, I did exactly that when he was sat on my computer trying to bite my fingers, I told him no and tapped his beak when he persisted this worked great for my fingers, but then he jumped on my head leaned forward and bit my nose!
He flew off leaving me with a red nose which was bleeding!
I didn't have time to discipline him for that as he had already flown away.
Its a good job i'm forgiving isn't it.
I have told him NO in a low tone when he was going to chew a wire and he stopped in his tracks.
Yes definately entertaining, just a little painful! He bit my lip the other day too and that did hurt I thought I was going to have a fat lip, I have 3 bull terriers but I get beat up by a little green bird!
