Sometimes it occurs that a red hue is visible on the following body parts. Beard, anus, a small part on the legs and especially on the shaft of the tail feathers. Because the Dominant pieds (yellows) have the majority in my country I’ve only see it in this color. The hue is inheritable.
I was wondering by what this is caused. Is it an intensifying of psittacin? Is it an hidden mutation? Or a quality of the yellow crowns?
Maybe it is caused by the ancestors because we don’t know what different kind of cyanoramphus species came to Europe.
Does this hue also occur in other parts of the world?
To the people in New Zealand, I think this hue in normals can vary from dark green to purple.

peter,
i am currently breeding cinnamon pieds from a cinnamon pied hen and a cinnamon pied cock. They are producing 1 maybe 2 pieds in each nest showing the red hue in the tail feathers just as your yellow bird shows. I have just currently paired two of these birds together. will keep you informed with the results.
I have seen the same hue in some of my yellow birds. I tried to intensify this hue. After 3 generations the hue wasn't intensified. I stopped breeding them because these birds are not good enough for exhibitions, what is one of my goals in breeding kakariki. At some wildcolour birds the green colour near the tail shaft is purple. So my opinion at this moment is: there must be a subspecies that has this.

Hi Pablo,
Last year I only bred one chick of 2 parents with the hue. This bird inherited the hue but it is not more or less then that of the parents. I'm currently focused on breeding normals, so the red hue breeding is put aside.
