I think it would be a way to introduce kakariki to the niche the Rosella's are occupying. Giving them a new chance to continue their evolution on NZ mainland.
No..it doesnt work that way
Rosselas are a very agressive bird, very common in the wild, extemly destructive to the natural habitat, and local bird life.
I put them..in the wild on the same level as rats, mice, stoats, ferrits, possums and other ferral animals that have desimated our natual envioment. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
City. Great to see someone who seems concerned with the proliferation of wild Kakariki in NZ.
However, we have a government outfit called DoC; there is most likely no way they would ever allow your idea. DoC are doing their best in some areas regards Kakariki, and are making some good progress, but still remain lacking in other legislative issues with useing aviculturists knowledge and expertise regards any breeding programme of Kakariki for release, fostering etc.
Rosella's status in the NZ wilderness is a contentious issue; it is probably not a good idea to include them in any Kakariki conservation;IMHO.
There are many other things that could be done, http://www.kakariki.net/ftopict-409-wild.html+stock ....this link has some basic ideas of what IMHO is a blueprint of what is the problem and what is needed.
