Hi all,
My Kakariki can't make up her mind which box she wishes to nest in. This morning I had a peak in all the boxes (I do this once a week or so) and found 2 eggs in one box and 1 in another. She was in the box with the single egg and the male sleeps in the one with the two eggs. Should I move the 2 eggs into the box she is in or leave them to it?
Is she actually sitting, ie does she still spend quite a bit of time out of the nest
'If she is she is not actually sitting yet, but still laying.
When she has laid all her eggs she will then start to incubate them
The common misconception is thatt birds incubate from the time the 1st egg is laid...they dont
Eggs remain dormant for 8/14 days without being incubated, then the hen sits near on full time 'activating' the growth in the egg.
I would put the egg with the others. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
She has been spending all her time in the box for about a week and a half now so going from what you are saying she has finished laying. I will sift the eggs from his box into hers in the morning.
Hi Ben this happens all the time with mine. I usually wait till she has laid the third egg and i move the single egg over to the nest with 2 in it. The male will move to the other box. Cheers Kev
