I visited this site to find out about my kakariki, Pepe, as she has been losing some feathers from her head. I not only found out that this is common and not to be alarmed as nothing more sinister is happening to her, but I have found out soooo much more. What a FANTASTIC site. I have joined up, of course, and have been here for the past two hours reading the wealth of knowledge out there from fellow Kakariki lovers and owners.
I have a 10 month old yellow crowned kakariki, Pepe, and she was hand reared so is very tame and loving. She is out of her cage most of the day when I am home with her, and loves exploring and biting, chewing everything she can sink her beak into. She brings me so much joy and I just love watching her and understanding her more every day.
I am going to love being a part of this friendly bird community, reading all the stories and advice. Will take me a while to navigate around the site, so bare with me if I make mistakes.
I agree Mysty, this site is a life saver. I already feel reassured in reading everybody elses stories of health and diet issues, that my little kike is no different to all the others out there. It's just wonderful finding other kike lovers who "get it", our love and fascination for these little birds.
Thanks Steps, I've been reading a lot of great advice from you. Read about chicken bones and meat. I feed my kike some bones once a week and yes, she loves them, really bites into the soft cartlidge and also loves the meat.
