My little boy has been sick for a few days. He is a 2 1/2 year old Yellow Crown Kakariki. I took him to a specialized bird store on Sunday as no bird vet was availiable. They gave me some antibiotics and sent me to the chemist for some Nilstat.

Tiki has been very sad. Not talking much and doesn't seem to be eating alot. He is puffed up and sleeping alot. I put him into a smaller cage, but he didn't seem to like that as we only use it when we are travelling. Today I put him back into his big cage after washing everything and giving the cage a very good scrub with water and vinegar. He had a little bath and has been a little more active, but nowhere near what a Kaki should be.
I have him in a warm room, and have covered his cage with a towel, which normally he does not like. He has not complained.
I have not changed his diet and his cage is always spotless.
I have feed him a small amount of handraising mix from a spoon, which he ate a little of.
PLEASE, PLEASE Pray I am desperate for an answer. Tiki is my little baby, alway asking "Where's Wendy Tiki? There she is." As well as much more. I cannot bare to lose him Sad , I love him so much.
Look forward to a quick reply

PostPosted: Wed Jul 08, 2009 9:29 pm    Post subject: Tiki's trip to the vet

Tiki had not really improved much today so I decided to take him to the bird vet. He only works two days a week and was able to see him this afternoon.

He is based at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast and does an excellent job.

After doing some tests, weighing Tiki and checking his breast bone, he rated him about 7/10. I suppose that is not to bad. The poor little boy looks so sick.

Tiki was then very brave and had a needle with antibiotics. He then had another big needle full of fluids. The vet said I should see an improvement in the next couple of days. If he has not picked up by next Friday he will need another needle.

Pray I am praying that today's trip will work and I will not have to drive him all the way to Coolum again, although he handle the trip fairly well.

Crying or Very sad I am so sad and miss his happy chatty little nature.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for Tiki.

Thanks Wendo angel
