Hello there,
Today on my allotment, I caught what I have since identified as a kakariki.
It is a bright yellow one with red eyes, and no green, so I think it's fairly unusual. I live in Nottinghamshire, England, know nothing of keeping such birds, and to be honest, have no desire to. I've put together a very temporary home and given it seeds (sunflower, flax) which it's been eating.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who I should give it to? If not, should I give it to a pet shop?
Please advise.
Thanks

hi there,and w3c

Firstly well done to you for rescuing such a delightful bird. ideally alittle 1/2 peasized veg be beneficial..i.e: finely chopped carrot,peas,lettuce,sweetcorn..what ever you have at hand..
..and secondly, please,if you can help it ,don't pass on to a petstore, they are found in general to have little or no adequate info on these enchanted little birds...

had you lived nearer ,i would have been delighted to take him off your hands .
If you check the quick search button to your left,u will find all you need to keep him comfortable and alil'intresting info about your find.

hopefully, someone living nearer to you from this site may be interested.
sorry I cant be of more help,..who knows you may become quite attached!
all the best

Hello again,
Thanks for getting in touch, and for the advice. He's been pretty chilled out and has eaten plenty of seeds and apple. It's not that I don't love birds and find him fascinating and charming. I just don't have the time or space to keep him as I would want him to be kept. With a house full of dogs and toddlers, I don't really want anything else to worry about! I phoned a local family farm place today that I know has a range of aviary birds. They have agreed to take him, and that means me and the kids can visit him. I know it's probably not ideal in that they may not have very specific knowledge, but I trust that they will look after him, and he'll have company and space.
Thanks again. x

Refer them here, and mention the "quick search" block on the left side of the web site.
