We had a male and female kakariki that we brought from a local petshop we followed the advise from your website and built an avairy for them to live in. All was going well and the female laid 5 eggs unfortunaly the male died suddenly leaving the female sitting on the eggs she will now not leave the nest ,makes alot of noise hardly eats and seems very depressed. What should we do for the best.would it help to get another male and how can we get her to eat? Thank you Crying or Very sad

Hi Hilary,

Maybe you have the feeling that she doesn't eat well. Eating is a primary necessity of life. She has a job to do now, incubating eggs. Regularly she will come from the nest to stretch her legs and to eat.
When the eggs hatch she will raise the chicks on her own.

In spite of that there are a few things that can go wrong. The eggs might be infertil and/or the female has the inability to produce cropmilk. The latter can happen with immature females.

I would forget. It is not a good idea to give her a new male now. It is better to wait until the chicks are fledged.

Definately dont introduce a new male, the chances that the male gets very agressive to the female and chicks is very high...
They have not had the chance to pair up
Diet, read this thread
