Hi everyone,

Firstly i'd like to say what a great site you have here.

I purchased my first kakariki's on friday from the local pet shop where i fell in love with their antics in the cage. Unfortunately since i got them home they seem very timid and panic everytime i put my hand near the cage. They're also very quiet hardly making a sound although they are eating and drinking.

We havent picked names for them yet as we are a bit unsure what sex they are, if anyone can help out it would be much appreciated.

Pray

The trick of hand in the cage, motionless , a cup of coffe and a book to pass the time.
1st when they finallty come down from the top of the cage on about the 3rd evening of a 30 min seesion, they will see if you are edable, a slight movement after they have had a few bites, soon changes bites to nibbles.
DONT move when they 1st bite..hurts but you will not loose a finger
If my 9 yr old son could do it....
Then start holding a peice of apple or treat..
All movents are in sloqw motion.
Its all a matter of trust...
There is a "quick search" block to the left and search button above type in taming

Hi!

I'd say they are 2 females for the shape of their beaks and head, but I'm not 100% sure.

regards / Pablo

They are both definately male, you can tell by the width of their beaks and the males beaks are slightly longer .

I have attached pics of mine below so you can see the difference, first one is the female, second is the male.

hi..... ive only had mine about a month..... but they are much more confident now than they were... although they are still quite scared of my hands..... but will take a nibble at a bit of brocili if i hold it and sit real still... they have also taken sunflower seeds from my hand in the cage....

i have a male n female.... the male Phooey is already changing some of his chatterings to sound like 'hello phooey' and yesterday the female sounded like she said it too... she is much quieter than him... but she still chatters... her name is Rosemary so its a bit more hard to say....

and i would seriously recomend reading through a load of old posts on here.... theres more usefull practical info here than anywhere... ive learned loads :D
