Our hen kakariki (Charlie) has suddenly developed a limp only yesterday, she is still able to fly but finds it difficult when landing and climbing about. Were not sure if she's knocked due to landing badly or something else. We spotted her standing on 1 leg with her other leg raised in front of her it looked quite limp and out of shape.

We also have a male kakariki (Kiwi) who is tame Charlie is'nt, we bought Kiwi to keep Charlie company, bearing in mind when we first got Charlie we were advised that she was a male but when we got Kiwi you could tell straight away that Charlie was a hen because of the size difference. They seem to get along ok and have recently been chasing each other round, Charlie is making strange hen noises and they have been regurgitating, so is this a sign that they are mating does anyone know.

Getting back to the limping, we also thought another reason could be because Kiwi was being too rough with her so we have put them into seperate cages side by side. Just so that she can rest her leg for a few days. When we let Kiwi out this morning for a fly about it took him ages to come out and he seemed quite distant with us. When he eventually did come out he flew straight onto the cage where Charlie is trying to get in and they were trying to regurgitate through the cage. We have now let Charlie out again as felt sorry for them being apart.

We just dont know what to do for the best, is it doing them more harm being seperated or shall we continue the seperation until Charlies leg starts to get better. Please Help
