Greetings to all you Kakariki enthusiasts - I am a necomer to the Fancy, located in Wales (United Kingdom) and have been learning all I can about these fascinating birds. I am now retired but my bird-keeping links go back to my youth and before, when my dad established a strain of Lutino Budgerigars (50 years ago!) which produced stock which were immediately recognisable as being 'his' stock - all bearing the same hallmark of quality, winning shows wherever they were exhibited. As a teenager with my own aviary, I studied genetics in secret instead of Algebra in school - so I am now intrigued by the exchanges regarding Lutino Kakariki and their possible sex linked genetics.
As I've said, I am a newcomer, my aviary is curently under construction (ornamental as well as functional) but already I have a three month old red-eye Lutino which the family have fallen in love with.
My thanks go to Steptoe for his informative revelations regarding diet, to Allen for his supportive input and to Kaka-riki for the obvious care he has bestowed upon rigorous improvement of the Kakariki species (quite apart from any colour mutations which he has 'developed')
I would be pleased to hear from any UK (Wales) based members who have experience and/or Lutinos available. Jaguar
