Had my Kakariki for about 7 months now. The pet shop told us he was male, i was a little skeptical as it must be hard to tell these little guys apart but anyways.
we had one incident already that made us question his sex, he found a box he particularly liked on the bookshelf then went crazy and nippy when we tried to get him out, we then started thinking maybe he was infact female as he seemed to be nesting....upon further research we found that females are relatively easy to shoo away from a nest whereas males defend it fiercely.. so again he's back to being male....we assume
ok thing is i feel like getting Captain Beaky (awesome name i know) a companion, if he is a male will 2 males get along? i've heard they're fairly social, non aggressive with other birds etc.
Though i would like to check he is male first, as i live in an apartment and though it would be wonderful to have lots of baby beakys i don't think the neighbors would appreciate
if you are going to introduce a female kakariki you would be best to keep them seperated first as the male tends to be very territorial and the female should be introduced to the cage first, how big is the cage looking from your pictures the cage does not look big enough to house another kakariki i keep mine in a large parrot cage in a spare room so they get plenty of flying time also the perches i use are apple branches, unfortunatly i do not know about the other bird you refer to
