Hi have a bit of a problem with my male.
when my female has been presenting to him to mate he shows no interest he just stands there looking at her. the male has bred before and he is 3 years old and she is 1 year old.

What should i do?

Any advice will be appreciated

Thanks

Well you are only 10 days since the shortest day and another 2 weeks to the coldest week of the yr...
I assume you have a couple nesting boxes in there?
And been feeding protien for the last few weeks...leftover chopped up meat and bones fron the kitchen table... and fruit...apple/kiwi fruit.

We feed to all our parrots....get a good cliever to chop the bones so they can get to the marrow...The cartilage on the ends of bones to.

Are u home around 11 am to about 12:30 pm?
That seems to be the general time our reda m8...Dont ask me why...maybe they are just bored after morning feed, bath , prune etc. Shocked

We have 4 yellow crown going to nest now, 2 are siiting, never seen any of them m8ing.

The ones we do see, are those right next to where we have morning afternoon tea, everyone continually walking past...they are very used to such activity, not shy or threatened.

Females will want to m8, the males dont always respond...he maybe responding when nothing else is around to disturb.

What sort of perches do they have? 2 to 3" in diameter...stable perches are required for sucessful m8ing.

I do not know how big the perches are but i had a pair in the same aviary and they mated on the perches with no problem the perches are very stable so there wont be any falling off while they are mating.

i have noticed that my female has been wanting to mate early in the morning around 7-8 and about midday. But i am not watching them all day so who knows. this has been going on for about 3 weeks. there are 2 young budgies in there but they mind there own business and the kakarikis don't pay attention to them. there is no fighting amongst them so i guess i will just have to wait.

thanks

This one's an old post but I am currently looking at the same situation. I have a hen that has chosen a male, she follows him everywhere and presents quite regularly. She will chase any competition away from the nest boxes and sticks very close to him. He on the other hand seems totally disinterested, he won't feed her and certainly isn't interested in mating at all.
They are in a colony aviary with 2 other hens and 2 cocks. There are 2 aviaries next to this one with a breeding pair in each one.
All systems go elsewhere but this bloke doesn't seem to want to get on board?
Mature bird of 12 months, hen is 6 months.
Diet is spot on with protein within so buggered if I know?...
