hi , i bought a pair of kakarikis male and fmale off of my friend as he was moving, i bought a breeder box and the hen had six eggs, i read it take around 18 to 21 days for eggs to hatch but alas they never hatched i left egs for 25 days rhen removed them, a few weks later i put breeder box back up and the hen had 2 eggs, alas nothing happened and i had to remove eggs again, my twin girls were so loking forward to seing new birds,,so now theres no breeder box up and the hen can drop an egg on the bottom of the cage, i remove it as i know the male, didnt do his buissness with the hen..i love these birds and would love to breed them, can any 1 give me some tips, as in what time of year, what to look out for etc: etc. im very new to this and would be grateful for all the help i can get.regards Paul
We never remove eggs but wait till the hen abanons the nest.
It happens...the male and female are physically incompatible. but usually if that is the case you may be 1 chick out of a batch of 8 eggs.
The other issue is diet..balanced , consistat starting months before breeding..this is essentual
Do u know if they have breed before?
How old they are, in particular the female. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
You could try bringing your birds into the mood by flushing them with excessive greenery, as in... putting in arm-fulls of mied species prunings etc; remove and replace with fresh every other day, though they may not have finished nibbling on it they will really appreciate the tastiest bits first and be programed to think of an endless supply of fresh food near their roosting/nesting habitat.
