I have recently noticed that Billy goes on top of the kitchen, lifts its right leg and makes clicking sound and shakes his head. But today, he flew to the top of one shelf and he was biting his leg (he didn't hurt himself, but he was doing something with his beak). His nails are about 8 millimeters long (I don't know is that long for kakariki), is that reason? I couldn't take a picture because shelf is over 2,5 meters high, but I will try to get picture next time.
He has thick bars in his cage, so he can shorten his nails.
Kakariki do have longer than normal claws....
And yes we have seen on several occassions of kakariki we have resuced, with very long claws bite/snap them off before we have had a chance to clip.
We have never had to clip any of our parrot claws, thu the sulphue crested used to get a manicure to file the sharp ends down...he used to enjoy it . _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Thank you very much for this and for reply on topic about age. Once again, you've helped me a lot. Now I know I don't have to worry about Billy's nails.
