Hi, I have a pair who got 6 eggs in the nest. I am prepared if they will not feed the chicks them self, I will feed the babies. I bought "Hagen Breeding Mash 1kg", its the only thing I could buy in my country.
My english is also not that good, so Im hoping simple answers for me :)
SO, If I notice that the hen wont feed the chicks, I will start the feeding.
How often do I feed them? How much? There are instructions on the Breedin Mash -package but its all in Germany, and I dont understand it.
Do I take the chicks out of the nest and away from the parents? And raise them all by myself? OR how???
If the parent have been hand reared for several generations, then they loose the learning of how to raise chicks... common across most animal species.
As all of our breeding has been aviary/ parents , Im asking someone else to help out here.
Cheers

kakariki are excellent parents and far more tolerant than most.. in saying that a pair on 1st or 2nd breeding should be left alone...
It is not unusual for the problem to be the keepers being far too noisey
Once they have had a couple batches...
Well we have moved nesting boxes 100 miles.. and the aviaries... locked the parent in the nesting box... dismantled the flights, shipped, reassembled and un screwed the covers off the nesting boxes... and carry on as normal
Removed chicks due to high day temps... then return nps .. others in Aussie have removed for several days... nps
Kakariki also make excellent sargate parents... ebven for far larger birds like kings and sulphur crested cockatoo. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
