Hello, I'd like to get some advice before I get a Kakariki please. I saw some in my fodder shop today and I thought that they may be suitable family members as the lady mentioned that they are not squawky like some parrots. Im wondering how big a cage they will need (if I get a pair) I dont want to breed so will two females be good companions? Also I have a dog who is a bit of an idiot and will probably bark and jump up for a while. Is this likely to cause them too much stress as the dog learns to leave them alone? Do they need a covered area to sleep in like a nesting box? or are they ok to sleep on a branch? Can I move them inside and out as the weather changes (I know they dont like the heat) Anything else you can think of that I need to know
Thank you

kakariki are a very active bird, require a good sized cage, and free time from a cage.. more ideal in the long term a avairy... thu make excellent pets. But keep in mind they are a very active bird, and independent... one tends to co habit rather than cuddle on demand.
Couple males would be a better option.

A yes,as will with any pet child etc...doesnt take much to have the 2 become buddies in and out of the cage

They only need a nesting box to breed...
Branches in cages rather than wood or plastic dowels.

Of any small parrot, even large parrot or bird species the kakariki would be the most hardy and tolerant.. temps varying from below zero, snow , thru to mid 40s
All of these are covered in great detail, in the forums over the last 12 yrs or so.. including diet care etc.
The "quick search" block on the left will give you far more detail , diets, taming, care, cages, temperament etc. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
