Release of Kakariki in NZ.
(And other native species)
We KILL our birds because DoC due to legislation . DoC only have to confer with those they choose (outside Treaty of Waitangi requirements) and they choose to NOT to correspond at ALL with NZ breeders of native Kakariki.
Their own wild supply is unsuitable, (hybrid/disease) Yet, Conservation Organisations are approved to release, want Kakariki , DoC will do nothing to approve or accept supply from NZ breeders, even thu at no cost.
Becuase DoC has limited budgets or more highly endangered species only, they take the attitude, other species cant be released even thu there is no cost or budget requiements.
Release of Exotic Game birds in NZ
(quail, pheasant, duck)
"You will need a free permit from Fish and Game NZ who can often also arrange for eggs to get you started "
There is no regular inspections or screening controls of birds before release.
Permissions have to be gained from the property owner.
The only requirement (and initial permit) is after release a form has to be filled out detailing numbers and location and sent to the Fish and Game NZ. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
