My male has come up with a new habit he keeps opening/swinging the little door/cover at the bottom of the nest box (you know the one you use to check the eggs)....does anyone elses bird do this and is it a bad thing.....the hen is not on eggs ATM but they are not far off .....lots of mating going on
he has alo be come territorial but only with my tiel (who used to share a cage with him..........he will freak out if she ;lands on the cage and i now cannot let them all out together as he was tageting her where ever she was even went in her cage to get her...........this is a new behaviour last week or under.......funny thing is he doesnt worry about the conure or the princess parrot.......in fact he tryes to feed the princess parrot

I have experienced this can have bad consequences. The female can be startled and on her run damage the eggs. It is better to search for a good lock. Kikes are verry inventive to open it.

Hi guys this can turn out to be a bad habit. A couple of years ago i had a eastern rosella hen do the same thing. The problem was she tried to get out this door and got her head court. Luckly i found her close to death hanging by her neck and released her. After a day in the hosptial she came good but this can be dangerous. I now have a little nail in the swing doors so they can't be opened. Cheers Kevin

We use a boot shaped nesting box...the top of the boot opens.
No latch..just a big rock weighs it down
