Hi there I have two Kakarikis one boy and one girl, the boy one (Billy) has always had a bit of a temper but lately he seems to be annoyed a lot particularly when I walk past the casge, I have teased him a bit in the past when playing around so he gets annoyed at me.
However quite a lot lately when he gets annoyed he chases and bites the girl bird (Becky) over time Becky now has a lot of bits of her actual skin underneath showing so a lot of her is red as a result of this biting. She has recently laid eggs and has not particularly payed any of them any attention but I think she must only be very young around 6 months or so.
Im guessing the lack of attention to eggs is not a major problem as its her first set and she is very young however im worred about what will happen if Billy keeps biting her when he gets annoyed.

Hi, I do not have much help for you except my new Kak who is about 6 months old started attacking me and just totally abusing me. He is my only one. I have other cockatiels and they couldn't stay in the same cage.
I thought it was hormones and it can be. I also tried to treat him behaviourally- I am a behavioroligist () no match for this one.
Well, this is how it is working, he is on his own. I have to distract him to go in his cage to feed him so he will not attack me. I put one hand above the door and wait. He attacks that one from inside and then I do the other things with my other hand.
I read several resources and one said to work with it not against it. So I talk nicely to him and have a piece of corn or celery to bite into instead of my finger. The other thing to do with a territorial bird is to get him away from his territory. in other words, cover his cage when you take him out so he doesn't see it.
I recommend the parrot behaviour books written by Mattie Sue Athan. She writes mainly for larger parrots but her behaviour training is excellent and spot on.
In any case, my rikie is a much nicer bird- he says 'good boy' while he attacks, LOL good luck Kathy
ps hormonal seasons are different with each bird I have no idea what the Kak season is- maybe someone here knows
